DEVELOPING: Multiple people were shot Friday near the Empire State Building in Manhattan, the New York City Police Department confirmed to us.
Authorities said at least five victims were shot and that the gunman was killed. It was not clear if the gunman shot himself or was shot by someone else.
A law enforcement source told us that it is unknown whether the shooting was "a case of a robbery or an act of terror."
A fire department spokesman said it received a call about the shooting just after at 9 a.m. Friday and that emergency units were on the scene within minutes.
The spokesman had no information about the victims' conditions.
The FBI confirmed to us that they were on the scene investigating.
The shooting occurred at 34th Street and Fifth Avenue.
